Featured Comedian Jon Stewart is leaving The Daily Show, a satirical program that monkey a newscast, he operated since 1999 and he has a cult show in the US, said Tuesday Comedy Central.

"For most of the past two decades, we have had the incredible privilege of working with Jon Stewart," said the chain in a statement. "Jon was one of the main members of Comedy Central, throwing the best talent in the industry, in front and behind the camera."

"Through his unique voice and vision, The Daily Show has become a must for millions of fans and unparalleled platform for political comedy that will live on for years to come," she continued .

The exact date of departure of comedian with blue eyes and the famous smirk was not given, Comedy Central stating only that it would remain at the helm of the show until "later this year" .

The announcement of the departure of Jon Stewart, aged 52, comes just months after stopping in December on The Colbert Report, hosted by his former sidekick Stephen Colbert parodied a newscast inspired by those of the conservative channel Fox News.

Colbert will take following the star host David Letterman, who is due to retire in 2015, in the night talk show The Late Show on CBS.

Comedy Central did not give details on the projects Stewart, one of the most caustic comedians in the United States, began a career as a director with the feature film Rosewater.

This film about the true story of an Iranian-Canadian journalist Maziar Bahari, imprisoned and in solitary confinement for 118 days in 2009 in Tehran, was released last year, with Gael Garcia Bernal in the title role.
